The Consortium of NLUs has scheduled CLAT 2027 for Sunday, 6 December 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm, as a pen and paper exam. In the final month, take a full mock every two to three days, read one quality newspaper daily for current affairs, and practise passage based legal and logical reasoning under time pressure.

CLAT 2027 examSunday, 6 December 2026, 2 pm to 4 pm

CLAT is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. It is an offline, pen and paper test. Admit cards, centre details and the provisional answer key will be released on consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

The five sections#

CLAT UG is entirely passage based. You read a passage and answer questions on it. The sections are:

  1. English Language: comprehension, inference and vocabulary in context.
  2. Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: passages on recent national and international events.
  3. Legal Reasoning: apply a stated legal principle to a set of facts. You do not need prior legal knowledge.
  4. Logical Reasoning: arguments, assumptions, strengthening and weakening.
  5. Quantitative Techniques: data and arithmetic drawn from a short passage or table.

In recent editions, each correct answer carried 1 mark and each wrong answer cost 0.25 marks. Confirm the current scheme in the official notification.

Final month plan#

Every day: read one quality newspaper and note the five issues most likely to become a passage. Current affairs passages tend to cover events of the past year, so revise in monthly blocks.

Every two to three days: take a full two hour mock on paper, in the 2 pm to 4 pm slot. Then spend the next session on analysis.

Analysis routine:

  • Mark every question as correct, wrong, or skipped.
  • For wrong legal reasoning answers, check whether you applied the principle given in the passage or your own idea of the law. The principle in the passage always wins.
  • For logical reasoning, write down why each wrong option is wrong. This is the fastest way to improve accuracy.
  • Track how long each section takes you. Most students run out of time, so set a target time per section and stick to it in every mock.

Exam day#

  • Carry the admit card and the identity proof listed on it.
  • Reach the centre before the reporting time on your admit card.
  • Read the question booklet instructions in the first minutes, then start with the section you are most accurate in.
  • Because of negative marking, skip a question when you cannot eliminate at least two options.

After the exam: from rank to NLU#

The Consortium releases the result and then runs centralised counselling for NLU seats, based on your rank, category and domicile. Explore past closing ranks with the CLAT cutoff explorer, test your options with the NLU predictor, and ask verified seniors at NLUs what life and placements look like at each university.
