CAT 2026 Final Month Plan: Mocks, Section Strategy and Exam Day Checklist
Quick answer
In the final month before CAT 2026, widely reported for Sunday 29 November 2026, stop adding new topics. Take two to three full mocks a week in your slot timing, spend more time analysing each mock than taking it, and fix one weakness per section. Confirm your date, slot and centre on the admit card from iimcat.ac.in.
Confirm the basics first#
CAT 2026 is widely reported to be on Sunday, 29 November 2026, in three slots, as a computer based test with three sections in a fixed order: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Ability (QA). Each section has its own time limit, and you cannot switch between sections.
Your admit card is the only document that tells you your slot and centre. Download it from iimcat.ac.in as soon as it is released and visit the centre route once before exam day if you can.
The rule for the last month#
No new topics. Every hour now goes to three things: full mocks, mock analysis, and revisiting the question types you already know but keep getting wrong.
Week by week#
| Week | Mocks | Main focus |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | 3 full mocks | Find your two weakest question types per section |
| Week 2 | 3 full mocks | Drill only those question types in short timed sets |
| Week 3 | 2 full mocks | Lock your section strategy and attempt order inside each section |
| Exam week | 1 light mock early in the week | Rest, revise formulas and your error log, sleep on your slot's schedule |
Take every mock at the same time of day as your slot. Your brain should be used to thinking hard at that hour.
How to analyse a mock#
A mock you do not analyse is mostly wasted. Spend at least as long reviewing a mock as you spent taking it.
- Sort every question into four groups: correct, wrong, skipped but solvable, and skipped and hard.
- The skipped but solvable group is your score. These are the marks you left behind. Find out why: time pressure, fear, or not spotting the easy question in time.
- For wrong answers, find the step that failed. Misread question, calculation slip, wrong concept. Write it in an error log in one line.
- Re-solve without a timer. If you can solve it calmly, the issue is selection and timing, not knowledge.
Section strategy#
VARC#
Reading comprehension carries most of this section. Read actively, summarising each paragraph in a few words in your head. For verbal ability questions such as para summary and odd sentence out, eliminate options rather than hunting for the perfect one.
DILR#
DILR rewards set selection more than any other section. Spend the first few minutes scanning all sets and pick the ones whose structure you recognise. Two fully solved sets are worth more than four half solved ones.
QA#
Arithmetic and algebra make up a large share of most recent papers. Attempt the questions you can solve in one clean method first, and leave long calculations for a second pass. Use the on screen calculator only when it is faster than reasoning.
Exam day checklist#
- Admit card printout and a valid original photo ID, as listed on the admit card
- Reach the centre well before the reporting time printed on the admit card
- Eat something light before you leave
- Decide in advance what you will do if the first section feels hard: move on question by question, do not panic about the whole paper
After CAT: percentile to shortlist#
Your percentile is only the first step. IIMs and other B-schools also weigh academics, work experience and diversity factors in different ways. Use the B-school shortlister and IIM cutoffs to see where your profile fits, and talk to verified seniors at the schools you are targeting about WAT and PI preparation.
Frequently asked questions#
When is CAT 2026?#
CAT 2026 is widely reported for Sunday, 29 November 2026. Your admit card from iimcat.ac.in confirms your date, slot and centre.
How many mocks should I take in the last month before CAT?#
Two to three full mocks a week is enough for most students, as long as each one is analysed thoroughly. More mocks without analysis rarely improve scores.
Should I study new topics in the last month?#
No. Use the last month to strengthen topics you already know and to improve question selection and timing.
